After receiving a visit from Esther Gombor, who is the author of my book on the gypsy cards, I thought I wold give the cards another go. I was originally planning to do a challange/outcome spread again, but I don’t think it worked out that way. The resulting cards are unsettling, and once again I have an ongoing theme that I don’t like.
Misfortune – Desire – Ecclesiastic – Eneny – Lover – Jealousy
I’ve read as much as I could about Misfortune because it’s (on the surface) such an ugly card to draw. In reality it’s really not all that bad… The house is burning down around us, but through a clearing one can see that we are safe and can escape with that which is dearest to us (the woman is holding a small child) if we just move forward toward the help being offered to us (the firemen are there waiting).
The next card is Desire. A woman is looking out through a window. She has one hand on her hip, the other is holding the drapes. She appears to be dressed nicely and her hair is in an updo. What is she waiting for? Is it her lover? ”Desire” would imply this. There is a longing associated here that is not yet fulfilled… The woman is turned towards the misfortune card ever so slightly, as if one’s desire is for an upheaval.
The Ecclesiastic follows. I have always had a lot of difficulty with this card as well – in Esther’s book most of the definitions are about divine guidance, enlightenment and spirituality. All of these make sense. However, the priest in this card faces the desire card. So is this desire all part of a divine plan? It makes me think more along the lines of the Cross card in the Lenormand, and the concept of fate.
Then along comes the enemy. This card is pretty self-explainatory. It could be that someone is waiting to sabotauge the Lover in this case (the card that follows) or it could represent one’s being their own worst enemy. I tend to think it to be representative of another person, as the final card is Jealousy. The Enemy is also holding something (it appears to be a walking stick) and is turned towards the Lover. The Lover is facing the enemy. So whatever the issue, the Lover will probably see it coming.
I’m not sure what else to comment on here, so I think I will leave this as is for now, and possible re-visit it later….
Interesting things to note:
The central card on the bottom row (the Zigeuner cards) is “Falseness”. The cards surrounding the central card in the top row (the Lenormand) are the Fox and the Snake, both of which resemble the Cat and Snake in falsness. The rider (top row) also has a resemblance to the coachman in the “journey” card (bottom row) and the predominant horse is white as it the horse the rider is on.
In the top row, the Lady’s body is facing the other cards, however her face itself is turned away. She is coulpled with the Fox. This can imply either that she is clever or underhanded. The lady is also coupled with the Rider who is approaching her. Since the Lady is generally the Querent or Questioner, she would be me. So the rider may be bringing me a message from a woman (snake) who is less than trustworthy (fox). What is also unsettling is that my home is surrounded by the fox and snake.
In the Gypsy (Zigeuner) reading, it’s kicked off by Misfortune. So it seems something rather unpleasant is going to occur. Fortunately it will not be a long term influence (as indicated by the visit) or perhaps it will come from a visit. The visit card has an elment of surprise to it. The third card is falseness which is also a rather negative card. It can indciate deception – internally or externally. Maybe this visit will force me to face something that I know but am turning a blind eye to? Next is unexpected joy which is a very positive card, so whatever the unfortunate event is, I can at least take heart that it will be for the best. It’s followed by journey. The journey card can indicate a long time or a sudden voyage. Maybe I am happy to be going on a trip? The other possibility is that something that appeared to be a very bad situation (misfortune) was not (falsness) when I visit it and see it for what it is?
