While speaking with a friend, I thought it might be interesting to look at the Eclipse. On a whim, I asked “Should I read for the Sun or Moon first?”. It was of no matter to my friend so I choose the moon (being we’re both women). What happened next was very interesting.
I typically throw in lines of five. I am not sure why, but I like five. It’s not too many cards but not too few. When I threw my first line (because when I choose something specific, I will throw lines of five until the card I am seeking appears in a line) the first card out was the Sun. So I chuckled to myself because I was initially going to choose the Sun. I continued to throw my five cards and then started the next line. The first card of the second line? The Moon. The eclipse occurs when the Moon moves in front of the Sun.
Here is the full throw:

Because of the way that the cards came up, I decided to read it as layers. I am leaving out cards 1 & 5 because they are (to me) the eclipse. So, what will this energy bring?
Garden + Key : A gathering will certainly take place. This to me is a no-brainer. It could also be “Meetings are successful”.
Lily + Clouds : What I find interesting about these two cards are the two Kings. The Lily is the “Good” king – the lily is generally representative of family matters, harmony and social welfare. The Clouds – the “Bad” king are about setbacks and storminess – as a person this king is your “Grumpy” man. Think unpleasant Ex. What I dislike about this is that the Bad king sits on top of the Good king. So it appears that harmony will be disrupted. At least the clouds are a passing influence.
Ring + Dog : This makes me think “obligations will be kept” or a promise fulfilled. The clouds will still have an influence here – the dark side of the clouds face the dog. Good people may feel like they’re being dogged. Aggravation will come with the responsibilities to be kept.
Bear + Tree : There are a lot of ways to view this combination, but I see it as someone or something seeing a gradual increase of power or influence. The Bear is a very powerful animal and one which demands your attention and respect. The tree implys the growth here – slow and steady. A Maturation of sorts. Once the energy of the clouds dissipate, the energy of the Dog will take over so I see the growth and power to be more positive.
There’s also the strong possibility that there’s a message here for me personally as in two days time we will be traveling to a family reunion (garden + lily). There will most certainly be alcohol involved which makes the clouds + lily a funny combination (a family of social drinkers, which they are). It may be trying (clouds again) but in the end it appears that relationships will grow and strengthen (ring +dog & bear + tree).
Thoughts? :)
I am back.
So many thinks have happened since I stopped writing – I hadn’t stopped reading, but I hadn’t been enjoying it the way that I should have. I actually started to write on more than one occasion and then decided it just wasn’t time. So yesterday I asked “Should I return to writing about cards” and received a very positive response. And then my son awoke from his nap, LOL…
I decided today to ask about myself and my emotional condition. I don’t particularly like reading for myself. I often find it difficult to be objective. Part of my hiatus involved learning on an emotional level – learning to trust myself, and learning to let go of my pre-conceived ideas about people and situations around me. I, like many people tend to drag quite a bit of emotional baggage around, and it’s time to allow myself to leave it behind so I can grow as an individual again.
I have been growing in my cartomancy practice as a direct result of this, and being able to recognize the difference between picking up on a situation, and picking up the feelings around a situation. I think this is very important when you’re reading for others – it’s very easy to become influence by the person you’re reading. You may pick up on what THEY think is going to happen (especially if they themselves are emotional at the time you’re reading for them – something I do not recommend). It is what they feel is going to happen – sometimes they may be correct, but other times their hopes and fears are just that. Discernment becomes especially valuable in these instances.
Because I suffer periodically with melancholy I decided to ask about a particular situation that has been causing me some concern. I decided I would only throw three cards. I shuffled, cut and threw the first three cards at the top of my deck.

Key - Lady - Anchor
#33 The Key – I always view the key as an affirming card – it is my “Yes!” when I read, it’s also a card of success and successful undertakings. Keys also open doors of course, and lately I have felt somewhat locked in.
#29 – The Lady – represents myself. I always love when I throw a set of cards and my representative card appears in the center. To me that is a very good omen and gives me a sense that I have connected with my concern well.
#35 – The Anchor – I usually use the anchor to mean employment or work (I most often use Treppner’s interpretations) but I have found it very often to represent other things. It’s hard to explain how one makes that determination – it’s more of an instinctive feeling to me than anything else. I have had it come up in readings to mean a weight or burden, often imposed by people outside of the questioner. I have also read it to mean grounding in it’s most positive definition. It’s a secure feeling – the long hard journey is over, now is the time for both celebration and rest. You are at home once again.
I felt very pleased when I saw these three cards. The lady faces the key, so my focus will be on the positive aspect of the situation in question. I will be more focused on my success than being depressed. There may potentially be work involved (and I know for certain there will be) but I will be pleased with the fruit of my labors. I will feel more grounded and more at home. To me this throw is all about successful undertakings and positive outlooks.
What a wonderful gift for my return to blogging, eh?
Tree: Illness, or something that has been going on for a long time. Coupled with the key, it will improve. And of course I am not feeling myself this morning.
The whips: conversations (sometimes heated) or as a description, someone who is arguementative. And again, I woke up feeling rather grumpy and made every effort to be quiet so as to not start of my day with conflict. If you combine the whips with the paths, a decision needs to be made of different options (and the paths with the lady indicate I will be decisive).
Finally, the key and paths show that I will make the right decision. So it appears it won’t be such a bad day after all, lol…
This is very interesting…
It looks rather sordid, no?
A message (rider) about a contract (ring) that is to be severed (scythe) due to a woman/confusion (snake) leads to seperation (tower)? One also has to bear in mind that the rider can be representative of a man who would probably be athletic. The Tower can also represent independance (as the tower stands alone) or possibly authority. Perhaps a woman in authority will be resposible?
So we could have an independant and athletic man (tower+rider) who has an agreement with a woman in authority (ring+snake+tower) that is about to be abruptly terminated. Hmmm… so I will go “textbook” (this is based on the very wonderful Treppner course that I was made aware of by the very talented Ms. Chanah).
Rider+Ring = proposal of marriage/contract
Ring+Scythe = relationship in danger, threatening breakup
Scythe+Snake = Danger for a woman (self inflicted by an intrigue)/a surgery
Snake+Tower = A business woman, an independant woman.
Eww. The rider with the tower could be a message from someone in authority with the ring/snake being a woman in partnership. I have to say that unless I am missing something, this is quite ugly. I also should add that while this deck is very pretty (it is the Art Deco or Liberty oracle) this is the second time it’s given me a strange read. So (because I must beat things to death) I asked for clarification. Here was my second draw:
So the lady+lily means a passionate woman, the lady+book could be an intelligent woman and/or a woman not know to me. The lily and key = assistance from a third (male) person (king of spades), the lily and the clover luck brought by the man? The key and clover is certain good fortune with the clover and book as the only two I don’t get in this context.
I discussed this with my husband and he mentioned there was some gossip at his job about the woman who is for the most part in charge, Apparently she is having some marital issues. Her name (which I also found funny) could be associated with the clover. Hmmm…..
For today’s draw I decided to use the Isabel’s Traum Lenormand. It’s a quirky looking deck that I don’t think is available anywhere but Germany at this point. At any rate I happen to like it a lot. I don’t know why.
There aren’t many cards I like to see less than the Mice. What I found to be particularly amusing about this draw was that I actually did have a dream (or traum if you will) about mice last night. We had quite a problem with them this past winter and it took quite some time to get them out of our house. I dreamt that they were back last night. Ironic, no?
So – let’s look at this.
Letter (a message) Mice (loss) the Ship (a trip) the Key (success, yes) the sun (big luck).
At first glance it appears that a message about a trip that will be cancelled will be a great success and bring us good fortune. The only trip we currently have planned is one to visit my family in just over two months time. Now the ship can also relate to business (ships were once the main method of getting goods back and forth) so there could be another hidden “about that job” message in this draw. So it could relate to my husband’s job offer falling through. In that case, one might conclude that it is in fact for the best given the very positive sun card at the end of the line. Now for the other card combinations.
Sun-letter (cards 1 and 5) A positive message and Mouse-Key (cards 2 and 4) could be “sure to fail or be lost”. This to me is tempered because the key-sun would be “success is certain” The other possibility that I could be overlooking is the letter-mouse combination suggesting that the message is lost…
I am not sure how I want to take this, although the mice are very powerful here to me because of my dream, but the end result should be for the best which I can take heart in. The sun is also representative of the summer so I would think that there is a likelihood that I will be feeling much better about everything in the coming weeks. I also wonder if the message will come during the daytime hours because the first thing I noted about the letter card this time was that the candle on the desk is not lit.
Relating to a trip though – it could also be that my flights may be cancelled and we will be re-booked for different times or days (we have had this happen before) and it will work out for the best. That’s what’s so funny I think about reading cards. The message *could* be something that is life changing, or it could be something completely mundane. We shall see…
