While speaking with a friend, I thought it might be interesting to look at the Eclipse.  On a whim, I asked “Should I read for the Sun or Moon first?”.  It was of no matter to my friend so I choose the moon (being we’re both women).  What happened next was very interesting.

I typically throw in lines of five.  I am not sure why, but I like five.  It’s not too many cards but not too few.  When I threw my first line (because when I choose something specific, I will throw lines of five until the card I am seeking appears in a line) the first card out was the Sun.  So I chuckled to myself because I was initially going to choose the Sun.  I continued to throw my five cards and then started the next line.  The first card of the second line?  The Moon.  The eclipse occurs when the Moon moves in front of the Sun.

Here is the full throw:

eclipse 072109

Because of the way that the cards came up, I decided to read it as layers.  I am leaving out cards 1 & 5 because they are (to me) the eclipse.  So, what will this energy bring?

Garden + Key : A gathering will certainly take place.  This to me is a no-brainer.  It could also be “Meetings are successful”.

Lily + Clouds :   What I find interesting about these two cards are the two Kings.  The Lily is the “Good” king – the lily is generally representative of family matters, harmony and social welfare.  The Clouds – the “Bad” king are about setbacks and storminess – as a person this king is your “Grumpy” man.  Think unpleasant Ex.  What I dislike about this is that the Bad king sits on top of the Good king.  So it appears that harmony will be disrupted.  At least the clouds are a passing influence.

Ring + Dog : This makes me think “obligations will be kept” or a promise fulfilled.  The clouds will still have an influence here – the dark side of the clouds face the dog.  Good people may feel like they’re being dogged.  Aggravation will come with the responsibilities to be kept.

Bear + Tree :  There are a lot of ways to view this combination, but I see it as someone or something seeing a gradual increase of power or influence.  The Bear is a very powerful animal and one which demands your attention and respect.  The tree implys the growth here – slow and steady.  A Maturation of sorts.  Once the energy of the clouds dissipate, the energy of the Dog will take over so I see the growth and power to be more positive.

There’s also the strong possibility that there’s a message here for me personally as in two days time we will be traveling to a family reunion (garden + lily).  There will most certainly be alcohol involved which makes the clouds + lily a funny combination (a family of social drinkers, which they are).  It may be trying (clouds again) but in the end it appears that relationships will grow and strengthen (ring +dog & bear + tree).

Thoughts?  :)

I have:

Bear – Paths – Ring – Sun – House

Bear generally means an official, though the bear can have a lot of other meanings.  Since the bear’s partner is the house, it makes me think a real estate agent but the bear is also coupled with the paths, so it could simply be a decision about a house (viewing the house as a possesion using the bear).  There’s also a decision to be made regarding a relationship or contract (paths + ring) and there’s good fortune around this (sun).  Whatever it is it will bring luck to the house (sun + house).

This is a very straightforward reading.  Sadly I know of no one who’s buying a home, lol…  I guess I’ll have to wait and see.  I looked at the bottom of the deck and my card was the dog so it is probably a friend, possibly male.

Tada!

Update: It (very ironically) turns out that one of the people in our IT department who was trying to help me today (9/19) mentioned during casual conversation that he and his future wife are house hunting.  They had made an offer on a home they liked and expected to hear back today.  Going with your first impression tends to give you a correct answer in life, and cards are no different.  It’s also important to recognize that different people read the same cards to mean different things!  That doesn’t mean one way is better than another – it’s quite the contrary!  When we shut ourselves off to suggestions and advice from others, we essentially shut off the learning process, and that’s the bad thing!

I am going to see how this works for me.  I got the idea from Tarot Dame’s blog.  Instead of my 5 card draw, I am going to do a combined five card Lenormand draw with a three card Shustah draw in conjunction.  Here was what I came out with:

Sun, Cross, Garden, Anchor, Ring

Shustah: Death, Gemini, Destiny - Lenormand: Sun, Cross, Garden, Anchor, Ring

First the Pages of Shustah:

Red 1 (Death) is the card of endings (the angel of death is carrying a scythe).

Black 3 (Gemini) has a time frame of 5/20 – 6/20, and is a card of high energy, movement, adaptability and communication.

Black 13 (Destiny) is the potential self brought to manifestation.  Truly I have a very difficult time with this card and the book meaning.  It’s the second time I’ve drawn it for my blog.

So it sounds as if there will be an ending and rebirth that will happen rather quickly, however this is meant to happen so that personal growth can take place.  Or that’s my take…  Now on to M’mselle…

The sun could be indicitive of summertime.  It is also the card of great luck.  The cross speaks of challanges and destiny (interesting).  The garden (or park) could be a meeting or something in the public arena.  The anchor is work (your job) or could indicate stability.  The ring is a marriage, relationship or contract.  So far this is quite promising.  Now, for the second layer…

Sun + cross+ ring to me is a lucky contract or agreement and this is “meant to be”.  The cross + anchor solidifies this for me as it is about work and that destiny is at play.  The garden + cross again could be a funeral though the other meaning is an important (cross) event (garden).  Garden + anchor could indicate a job in the public.  The anchor + ring is an employment contract.

I have to admit that this is puzzling to me, but I began throwing similar cards last night and just decided that I was getting goofy and needed to go to bed.  These cards are very positive but I have a hard time comprehending what this could be about.  If I am to take both together, the Shustah reading would lead me to belive that this would potentially rock my world.  I guess I will wait and see.  Of course, any commentary is always appreciated…

For today’s draw I decided to use the Isabel’s Traum Lenormand.  It’s a quirky looking deck that I don’t think is available anywhere but Germany at this point.  At any rate I happen to like it a lot.  I don’t know why.

Letter - Mice - Ship - Key - Sun

Letter - Mice - Ship - Key - Sun

There aren’t many cards I like to see less than the Mice.  What I found to be particularly amusing about this draw was that I actually did have a dream (or traum if you will) about mice last night.  We had quite a problem with them this past winter and it took quite some time to get them out of our house.  I dreamt that they were back last night.  Ironic, no?

So – let’s look at this.

Letter (a message) Mice (loss) the Ship (a trip) the Key (success, yes) the sun (big luck).

At first glance it appears that a message about a trip that will be cancelled will be a great success and bring us good fortune.  The only trip we currently have planned is one to visit my family in just over two months time.  Now the ship can also relate to business (ships were once the main method of getting goods back and forth) so there could be another hidden “about that job” message in this draw.  So it could relate to my husband’s job offer falling through.  In that case, one might conclude that it is in fact for the best given the very positive sun card at the end of the line.  Now for the other card combinations.

Sun-letter (cards 1 and 5) A positive message and Mouse-Key (cards 2 and 4) could be “sure to fail or be lost”.  This to me is tempered because the key-sun would be “success is certain”  The other possibility that I could be overlooking is the letter-mouse combination suggesting that the message is lost…

I am not sure how I want to take this, although the mice are very powerful here to me because of my dream, but the end result should be for the best which I can take heart in.  The sun is also representative of the summer so I would think that there is a likelihood that I will be feeling much better about everything in the coming weeks.  I also wonder if the message will come during the daytime hours because the first thing I noted about the letter card this time was that the candle on the desk is not lit.

Relating to a trip though – it could also be that my flights may be cancelled and we will be re-booked for different times or days (we have had this happen before) and it will work out for the best.  That’s what’s so funny I think about reading cards.  The message *could* be something that is life changing, or it could be something completely mundane.  We shall see…
